Srinagar, Nov 29 (KNO): A young girl made a self-immolation bid at Pratap Park here on Saturday. According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the girl, in an apparent act of self-harm, poured an inflammable substance on herself before setting herself ablaze. The onlookers were astonished as the shocking incident unfolded. However, a few bystanders rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames using available means before police personnel and emergency responders reached the scene. Later, the girl, who sustained multiple burn injuries, was immediately moved to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for urgent medical attention. Soon after the incident, a team of police officers reached the spot. “Police personnel collected the samples and evidence from the site, including partially burnt material, to ascertain the exact sequence of events,” said an official. He added, preliminary investigations suggest the girl allegedly set herself ablaze using a flammable liquid. “We have taken cognizance of the matter and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to this act,” the officer said adding that it looks like the girl was mentally unsound—(KNO)
